The liberal media giant released a dramatic report of freeing an “innocent” Syrian prisoner, which turned out to be nothing more than a carefully crafted lie.

The controversy came to light when CNN aired a report featuring correspondent Clarissa Ward dramatically “freeing” a supposedly innocent Syrian prisoner.

Ward breathlessly described the scene as “one of the most extraordinary moments I have witnessed.”

She painted a heart-wrenching picture of an unjustly detained civilian finally tasting freedom. However, the truth behind this emotional display was far more evil.

Independent fact-checkers at Verify-Sy quickly exposed CNN’s deception. The “innocent prisoner” was actually Salama Mohammad Salama, also known as “Abu Hamza,” a notorious member of Bashar al-Assad’s brutal regime.

Far from being a victim, Salama was involved in torture, theft, extortion and coercion during the Syrian civil war.

CNN’s attempts to backpedal only further exposed their incompetence. The network claimed, “We have subsequently been investigating his background and are aware that he may have given a false identity.”

“No one other than the CNN team was aware of our plans to visit the prison building featured in our report that day. The events transpired as they appear in our film,” the network added.

This is not the first time CNN has been caught red-handed fabricating news. The network previously faced allegations of staging a report near the Israel-Gaza border, using edited video to push its narrative.

Ward attempted to justify the reporting disaster, saying:

“I think we need to be humble about the challenges. It is a chaotic atmosphere, there is a huge amount of flux, and it is very difficult to verify information in real time on the ground…Stories take unexpected turns. We have to continue to report them without fear or favor, but it is immensely challenging in this environment and I think we need to be transparent about that.”

However, critics blasted her remarks as true journalists verify their facts before broadcasting them to millions.
