Honda is recalling 259,033 vehicles in the U.S. due to a brake pedal defect that could increase crash risks.

This affects models including the 2021-2025 Acura TLX, 2023-2025 Acura MDX, and the 2023-2025 Honda Pilot.

Any Acura or Honda driver should be checking their model year and getting informed about this urgent recall.

Reports point to a brake pedal pivot pin that may not be secured properly, potentially causing the pedal to shift out of place.

This leads to a dangerous increase in crash risk. Approximately 1% of the vehicles recalled are estimated to have this defect.

Fortunately, there have only been three warranty claims associated with the issue, and no injuries or fatalities have occurred yet.

Owners are being advised to contact their local Honda dealership for free inspections and any necessary repairs.

Notifications by mail will commence around July 28, aiming to inform all customers promptly.

“The issue could also cause an abnormal brake pedal feeling during operation, illuminate the brake malfunction light in the instrument cluster, or cause the vehicle’s brake lights to remain lit even when the brake pedal is not applied,” America Honda said.

This defect came to Honda’s attention during investigations that began in April 2024, with the confirmation of the issue arriving on June 5.

Originally the problem was traced back to improper assembly at a U.S. plant. This plant has now closed, with manufacturing operations relocated to a new facility in Mexico.

To enhance safety measures, the new Mexican facility uses camera sensor technology to ensure every pivot pin is adequately secured.

These actions aim to prevent future defects and assure drivers of the reliability of their vehicles.
