Judge Gags Trump

(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – In what might as well be described as a new act of pro-leftist judicial repression against Donald Trump, the judge overseeing his so-called “hush money” trial has issued a gag order preventing the former president from commenting on the witnesses, the prosecutors, and the court.

Manhattan’s Democrat District Attorney, Alvin Bragg, has slapped Trump with dozens of charges of financial misconduct over allegations that in 2016, he paid a “bribe” to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to prevent her from disclosing an alleged affair the two supposedly had a decade earlier.

Judge Juan Merchan presiding over the trial in New York City issued the directive to limit public comments on the legal proceedings on Tuesday, The Daily Caller reports.

The gag order prohibits Trump from discussing matters related to witnesses, the prosecuting team except for the district attorney, court personnel, their families, and potential jurors.

In the text of this order, Merchan pointed out the potential harm Trump’s public remarks might have on the smooth functioning of the court.

“[The former president’s] inflammatory extrajudicial statements undoubtedly risk impeding the orderly administration of this Court,” the judge wrote.

Despite initially opting not to restrict Trump’s freedom of speech at the start of this case, Merchan argued he later felt compelled to take action due to the specific nature and repercussions of the former president’s comments.

“Although this Court did not issue an order restricting Defendant’s speech at the inception of this case, choosing instead to issue an admonition, given the nature and impact of the statements made against this Court and a family member thereof, the District Attorney and an assistant District attorney, the witnesses in this case, as well as the nature and impact of the extrajudicial statements made by Defendant in the D.C. Circuit case (which resulted in the D.C. Circuit issuing an order restricting his speech),” the judge wrote.

“Given that the eve of trial is upon us, it is without question that the imminency of the risk of harm is now paramount,” he added.

Merchan has scheduled the trial to start with the selection of jurors on April 15, dismissing Trump’s plea for a delay in the trial.

Trump faces charges filed in April 2023 on 34 counts of allegedly manipulating business records to conceal payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
