In a decisive initiative that has Second Amendment Patriots cheering, Gun Owners of America (GOA) and allies are taking bold action to dismantle the National Firearms Act (NFA) after President Trump’s new law effectively abolishes its tax foundation.

The “One Big Beautiful Lawsuit” aims to challenge the constitutionality of the NFA, a move gun owners consider long overdue.
GOA, alongside other gun organizations, filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
The lawsuit seeks to declare unconstitutional the NFA’s registration and transfer requirements for firearms that are no longer subject to taxation.
With the excise tax on silencers and short-barreled rifles reduced to zero, plaintiffs argue the original justification for the NFA fails.
Without its tax-based foundation, the NFA stands on shaky legal ground.
The Supreme Court’s 1937 validation of the NFA as a tax law is now being reevaluated.
In the wake of Trump’s legislation, which eliminates the excise tax for nearly all NFA-covered firearms, the plaintiffs assert the NFA lacks constitutional backing.
Erich Pratt, spokesperson for GOA, stated, “This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to dismantle one of the most abusive federal gun control laws on the books.”
Supporters of the lawsuit, including firearm industry leaders, see this as an unprecedented chance to challenge and potentially topple federal gun control legislation.
Firearm registration and taxation have placed burdensome constraints on law-abiding citizens seeking to exercise their Second Amendment rights.
Past attempts at legislative reform have been unable to reach this point of potential NFA dismantlement.
“The Supreme Court has made clear that the NFA survives only as a tax law,” remarked Sam Paredes, the executive director of Gun Owners of California.
GOA and its allies are not alone in this fight.
The Firearms Policy Coalition is also gearing up for a legal battle against the NFA in federal court, seeing the tax repeal as a stepping stone to dismantle the Act entirely.
This move coincides with the Trump administration’s reshaping of federal gun policy, including deprioritizing enforcement of outdated registration errors, a shift welcomed by many in the gun rights community.
The Department of Justice, led by Attorney General Pam Bondi, aligns with this new course, focusing its efforts on more pressing issues, such as gun smuggling and violent crime, rather than on entrenched bureaucratic processes.
As the fight against restrictive federal gun laws intensifies, patriotic Americans are hopeful that their voices will be heard and their rights will be restored.
This pivotal legal challenge reflects the determination of gun owners nationwide to reclaim their constitutional freedoms.
The plaintiffs argue for the right to bear arms without undue government interference and regulatory traps that have little more than historical precedent to back them.
