‘Trump Is Exactly Right’ – Kristi Noem (Video)

(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – South Dakota’s GOP Governor, Kristi Noem, has expressed alignment with former President Donald Trump’s perspective on abortion as she argued that the states should have the right to set their own laws on this issue.

During an interview on the CNN program “State of the Union” on Sunday, host Dana Bash asked Noem whether she supports Trump’s viewpoint that states should dictate their own abortion laws.

The inquiry was grounded in Noem’s past actions as a co-sponsor of legislation aiming to implement a nationwide abortion ban during her tenure in the House, The Hill points out in a report.

Noem clarified that her stance evolved following the pivotal Supreme Court decision in 2022 that effectively nullified Roe v. Wade.

“The environment changed when Roe v. Wade was overturned. That returned the power back to the States, which is appropriate, and Donald Trump is exactly right. Every state’s laws will look different based on what the people in those states want to be their law when it comes to abortion,” Noem articulated.

“And we should be focusing on these women that are in crisis and they’re in unprecedented situations, and they need help and support and all the information that they can possibly have. So, my state’s laws may look different than what’s going on in California or Arizona or New York and I think that’s entirely appropriate,” she elaborated.

The report notes that earlier this month, Trump diverged from several of his party members—who advocate for a federal prohibition on abortion—by asserting his belief that states should have the prerogative to formulate their own abortion laws. He also mentioned his unwillingness to endorse a federal abortion ban.

Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Noem announced that in her state, physicians performing abortions would face prosecution, triggered by a new law activated by the Supreme Court’s ruling. The legislation in South Dakota strictly bans abortions with the sole exception being cases where the pregnant individual’s life is at risk.

“I may be pro-life but that doesn’t necessarily mean that I’m a dictator and that I get to decide that. Donald Trump recognizes the constitutional authority of the states and I love that. I love that we have somebody running for president who actually follows our Constitution and recognizes on this issue, that having that decision made at the state level is the appropriate decision,” Noem commented during her CNN appearance.

As she was questioned further about her views on whether South Dakota’s abortion law is excessively stringent, Noem stated that the legislation reflects the desires of her state’s populace. She acknowledged that the current law does not provide exceptions for instances of rape or incest.

“But I think that our law today is what South Dakota wants, and they’ll continue to have that debate, and I’ll continue to follow through on my role, which is to make sure the will of the people is enforced,” she concluded.
