Unamerican?: Google Shifts Jobs WHERE?

(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – In what can only be described as an unAmerican move, Google has implemented layoffs of US employees while shifting their positions abroad to India and Mexico.

Just before releasing its impressive first-quarter earnings on April 25, Google implemented layoffs affecting at least 200 employees from its “Core” teams.

This restructuring will entail relocating some roles to India and Mexico, as per information obtained by CNBC.

The Core division is tasked with the development of the technological base that supports Google’s primary products and ensures user safety online.

This division encompasses essential technical groups, such as the information technology unit, Python development team, technical infrastructure, security foundation, application platforms, core developers, and various engineering roles.

According to filings, a minimum of 50 engineering positions at Google’s Sunnyvale, California office were terminated.

Internal documents indicate that many Core teams will recruit for similar roles in Mexico and India.

Asim Husain, Vice President of Google Developer Ecosystem, communicated the layoff details to his team via email last week and discussed the cuts further during a town hall meeting, describing them as the most significant planned reductions for his team this year.

“We intend to maintain our current global footprint while also expanding in high-growth global workforce locations so that we can operate closer to our partners and developer communities,” Husain stated in the email.

Since early last year, Alphabet, Google’s parent company, has been reducing its workforce. It began with an announcement to cut approximately 12,000 jobs, or 6% of its total workforce, following a slump in the online advertising market.

Despite a recent recovery in digital advertising, Alphabet has continued to downsize across various departments this year.

In mid-April, Ruth Porat, the Chief Financial Officer, announced that the finance department would undergo a reorganization that includes layoffs and the relocation of positions to Bangalore, India, and Mexico City.

Prabhakar Raghavan, who oversees Google’s search operations, informed employees during a March all-hands meeting about plans to form teams closer to users in economically strategic locations like India and Brazil, where labor costs are lower than in the US.

These latest layoffs coincide with the company experiencing its fastest growth since early 2022 and enhanced profit margins.

Last week, Alphabet disclosed a 15% increase in first-quarter revenue compared to the previous year, alongside the declaration of its first-ever dividend and a $70 billion buyback.
