In a bombshell development, Elon Musk could be facing deportation as President Trump is considering using his DOGE agency to investigate the billionaire’s government subsidies and didn’t rule out deporting him back to South Africa.

The clash erupted after Musk criticized Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” and threatened to form a new political party.
The tension between Trump and his former supporter escalated when Musk publicly attacked the president’s signature legislation.
Musk claimed the bill would remove funding for enforcement of federal contempt of court orders and potentially add $3.3 trillion to the national debt over the next decade.
He even vowed to support Republican opponents of the bill, including Rep. Thomas Massie.
Trump fired back with a sharp warning about the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which Musk had previously helped establish.
“DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon. Wouldn’t that be terrible?” Trump said, suggesting the agency should investigate the billions in government subsidies Musk’s companies receive.
When asked if Musk, who was born in South Africa but became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2002, could face deportation, Trump responded, “We’ll have to take a look.”
The president further said, “Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.”
The dispute appears centered on electric vehicle subsidies. Trump ended what he called the “electric vehicle mandate” on his first day in office, a move that directly impacted Musk’s Tesla business.
“Elon’s very upset that the EV mandate is gonna be terminated. Not everybody wants an electric car. I don’t want an electric car,” Trump explained.
Musk has hit back, threatening political consequences for any Republicans who support the bill.
“Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame! They will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth,” Musk declared on his social media platform X.
“I don’t think he should be playing that game with me,” President Donald Trump reacted further.
The feud represents a dramatic collapse in what was once a mutually beneficial relationship.
Musk had shattered fundraising records for the GOP and provided substantial support to Trump’s campaign. He also briefly served in Trump’s administration before this dispute emerged.
The stakes are particularly high for Musk, whose companies rely heavily on government contracts.
SpaceX depends on NASA and Defense Department contracts, while Tesla has benefited from various government incentives.
Following Trump’s comments, Tesla’s share price declined, showing investors’ concerns about possible government retribution.
Despite Musk’s threats to start a new political party and target lawmakers who support the bill, Trump expressed confidence that Republicans would remain loyal to his agenda rather than siding with the tech billionaire.
The president’s willingness to confront even wealthy supporters demonstrates his commitment to implementing his America First policies without compromise, even when it means challenging former allies.
Reporter: Are you going to deport Elon Musk?
Trump: We'll have to take a look. We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? The monster that might have to go back and eat Elon. Wouldn’t that be terrible? He gets a lot of subsidies. pic.twitter.com/6I0OAIv7Js
