In the words of Jim McLaughlin, president of McLaughlin & Associates, Trump has “big advantages” on issues that matter most to voters.
Former President Trump is taking the lead over Joe Biden in national polls. McLaughlin, speaking on Newsmax’s “Wake Up America,” highlighted critical areas where Trump outshines Biden, influencing the current political landscape.
“When you look at the issues that voters care about, most of these issues like the economy, inflation, crime, and immigration, and Joe Biden’s negatives, his disapproval rating is well over 60%,” McLaughlin explained. “And then when you compare him versus President Trump, President Trump is significantly ahead of him.”
Former Rep. Bob Barr, also on the program, chimed in on the national polls, acknowledging that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and other GOP candidates are facing challenges catching up with Trump. Barr expressed skepticism, stating, “I commend Gov. DeSantis for trying to make the best of a bad polling situation, but I just don’t see any other Republican candidates being able to make up that huge difference.”
Barr, however, voiced concerns about the high unfavorable numbers for both Trump and Biden, acknowledging that this might trouble many voters. “But if those are the choices we have, those are the choices we have,” he conceded.
McLaughlin countered these concerns by emphasizing Trump’s “significant polling advantage” over Biden, coupled with higher job approval ratings. “What people care about is they want somebody that can do the job,” McLaughlin argued. “This is going to be a binary choice at the end of the day.”
The discussion touched on reports of Democrats considering a swap for Biden, with McLaughlin suggesting that alternatives like Gavin Newsom might not offer a more favorable record. “But if you look at somebody like Gavin Newsom, [they’re] going to have to deal with a record that either is just as bad as Joe Biden, or it might be even worse.”
