Two Pakistani immigration lawyers, Murshid and Nasir, have been arrested for orchestrating a scheme that undermines American job opportunities and national security.
Federal authorities charged the duo with exploiting U.S. visa programs by submitting fraudulent applications through fake job listings.
These lawyers placed bogus advertisements to secure Department of Labor certifications and then filed petitions under the H-1B, EB-2, and EB-3 visa programs.
By doing this, they artificially inflated the demand for foreign labor at the expense of American professionals, Breitbart News reports.
The indictment lists multiple charges, including conspiracy to defraud the United States, visa fraud, money laundering conspiracy, and RICO conspiracy.
According to the FBI, the defendants orchestrated an unlawful operation that allowed migrants to enter and remain in the U.S.
“These defendants are charged with engaging in extensive measures to hide a massive, multi-year, immigration fraud scheme through which they reaped substantial personal financial gain,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Chad E. Meacham.
The sham involved using payments from visa seekers and returning a portion as fake payroll to make these false opportunities appear legitimate.
Murshid and Nasir have already appeared in court, with detention hearings set for May 30, 2025.
If convicted, they each face up to 20 years in federal prison, with Murshid possibly facing denaturalization.
The case isn’t just about holding two individuals accountable; it’s part of a broader initiative prioritizing visa fraud and illegal preferences against American workers.
The FBI’s efforts align with former President Donald Trump’s civil enforcement priorities, emphasizing the urgent need to crack down on these fraudsters.
“If you are part of the pipeline contributing to our immigration crisis or abusing our legal immigration system via illegal preferences against American workers, you must stop,” said Andrea Lucas, the new head of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Prosecution is being handled by several dedicated Assistant U.S. Attorneys, indicating the gravity of this case.
The federal government, with the aid of the FBI and other agencies, remains determined to root out this kind of fraudulent activity.
This case exemplifies a commitment to upholding immigration laws and safeguarding national security.
Two Pakistani nationals residing in Texas have been arrested for operating a years-long immigration fraud and money laundering scheme involving fake job offers and fraudulent visa applications, according to FBI Director Kash Patel.
