BREAKING: Dem Gov Bans Guns; Shreds Constitution

(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – BREAKING NOW: In a move that shreds the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, a Democrat Governor just issued an order banning all citizens from carrying guns.

Specifically, the Governor of New Mexico, a Democrat, has declared an emergency order that prohibits the carrying of firearms in Bernalillo County, where Albuquerque is located.

The action comes in response to what she is labeling public health concerns raised by the fatal shooting of a child near a baseball game in Albuquerque earlier this week.

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham issued an official statement that accompanied the 30-day ban, noting, “When New Mexicans are afraid to be in crowds, to take their kids to school, to leave a baseball game — when their very right to exist is threatened by the prospect of violence at every turn — something is very wrong.”

The ban does not apply to police officers and licensed security guards.

The measure has sparked a mix of support and opposition among public officials.

To address anticipated criticism, Governor Grisham stated at a news conference where the local district attorney was also present, “I welcome the debate and fight about how to make New Mexicans safer.”

John Allen, the Sheriff of Bernalillo County, conveyed concerns about the order’s constitutionality, although he committed to enforcing it for the time being.

“While I understand and appreciate the urgency, the temporary ban challenges the foundation of our constitution, which I swore an oath to uphold,” Allen explained. “I am wary of placing my deputies in positions that could lead to civil liability conflicts, as well as the potential risks posed by prohibiting law-abiding citizens from their constitutional right to self-defense.”

Allen also indicated that there were “unsettled questions” surrounding the matter.

Governor Grisham also confirmed that the local district attorney overseeing Albuquerque does not favor the ban.

State Senator Greg Baca, the top Republican in the legislative body, was outspoken in his disapproval of the governor’s action.

“A child is murdered, the perpetrator is still on the loose, and what does the governor do? She [Grisham]… targets law-abiding citizens with an unconstitutional gun order,” Baca criticized.

On the other hand, Miranda Viscoli, co-president of New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence, applauded the governor’s prompt action. “If it saves one life, then it’s worth doing,” Viscoli told the Associated Press.

Governor Grisham has a history of enacting gun control measures. Since taking office in 2019, she has signed multiple bills restricting firearm access. This includes a polarizing “red flag” law in 2020, which allows law enforcement officials to confiscate guns from individuals considered a risk to themselves or others.
