Second Drill Sergeant Found Dead

(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – Our beloved troops suffer yet another terrible loss as the U.S. Army community at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, is grappling with the decease of two drill sergeants within a short span, raising serious concerns and sorrow among its ranks.

Staff Sgt. Zachary L. Melton, aged 30, was discovered unresponsive in his vehicle on the base this past Saturday. His absence from duty prompted a search by his colleagues, leading to this tragic discovery.

Melton served as a drill sergeant with the 1st Battalion, 34th Infantry Regiment and his passing has deeply affected the Fort Jackson community. Brig. Gen. Jason Kelly, the commander of Fort Jackson, expressed profound grief over Melton’s death, extending heartfelt condolences to his family and his battalion, known as the Always Forward battalion.

The circumstances of Melton’s death are currently under investigation by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division, and no immediate cause of death has been provided. This incident follows closely on the heels of another tragedy at the same base. Just under two weeks prior, 34-year-old Staff Sgt. Allen Burtram was also found dead after failing to report for duty. While initial reports indicated no signs of foul play in Burtram’s case, it too is under investigation.

In light of these events, Fort Jackson officials are taking steps to support the base’s personnel. Military chaplains and behavioral health staff are being made available to assist members of the unit during this difficult time.

These consecutive incidents at Fort Jackson cast a somber shadow over the base, prompting not only mourning but also a search for answers as the Army community seeks to understand and cope with these losses.
